Partly Cloudy with a Slight Chance of X-rays: Space Weather Explained

Living in Iowa, we are all familiar with the threat of hazardous weather—thunderstorms, ice storms, tornadoes, blizzards, and more.  But did you know there is also weather out in space? Driven by violent activity at the sun, this "space weather” can disrupt many technologies upon with we rely everyday, such as satellite communications, GPS navigation, and even the electrical power grid. Join Professor Greg Howes as he explains the different types of space weather and how they can adversely affect our technologically advanced society.

Reception to follow.
